Journal of Health Science and Medical Research

 Journal of Health Science and Medical Research (JHSMR), abbreviation name: J Health Sci Med Res; formally known as: Songklanagarind Medical Journal. The academic health science journal of Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, goal is to provide open opportunities for publication of the highest quality manuscripts. The journal is dedicated to: research or other academic topics, patient reports, interesting new scientific articles, suggestions, and new concepts that will be beneficial to medical professionals, public health workers and any other readers interested in this field. All articles are double-blindly peer-reviewed by experts in the corresponding field. Our frequency times of publication are: 6 issues per year (Jan-Feb, Mar-Apr, May-Jun, Jul-Aug, Sep-Oct, and Nov-Dec).

 Aims and scope

JHSMR offers an interdisciplinary forum for basic or applied medical and health sciences research, evidence-based and scientifically written articles. Our content focuses on, but is not limited to, these areas of medicine and health science;

  - Clinical medicine 
  - Biomedical science and biomedical engineering
  - Public health research
  - Data science in medicine and health care

Publication type

Since 2018, JHSMR has published 4 types of paper; including original articles (including systematic reviews), review articles, case reports and selected editorials.

Songklanagarind Medical Journal was first established by Prof. Vicharn Panich in 1983, and has reached its 36th year with the last issue of January-March 2018. During these 36 years, Songklanagarind Medical Journal has been through many developments and improvements. There have been altogether 9 editors-in-chief since the beginning:

One of the missions of the Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University (one of Thailand’s National Research Universities) is to foster high-quality research. Accordingly, Songklanagarind Medical Journal is an important tool to drive the mission to achieve this target.

Songklanagarind Medical Journal is an academic health science journal of Prince of Songkla University which has the goal to publicize and open opportunities for the submission of research or other academic topics, patient reports, interesting new scientific articles, suggestions, and new concepts which will be beneficial to medical professionals, public health workers, and any other readers interested in this field.

Songklanagarind Medical Journal is indexed in the journal database of the Thai-Journal Citation Index Centre (TCI) and was given a Thai-journal Impact Factor for the first time in 2002. Songklanagarind Medical Journal was certified as an academic journal (Tier 1) according to the journal quality assessment result announcement round 1, 1st time Year 2011. In 2015, Songklanagarind Medical Journal is certified as an academic journal (Tier 1) according to the journal quality assessment results announcement round 3, Years 2015-2019. Also, Songklanagarind Medical Journal is indexed in the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) in the 1st time assessment Year 2014 for 41 journals.

Since Vol.36, No2 (2018), the name of Songklanagarind Medical Journal was changed to Journal of Health Science and Medical Research, as well as aims to significantly move forward to be indexed in the international bibliometric databases, Scopus at last.

The 4th meeting on System Development and Quality Improvement of Thai Journals indexed in Scopus: Phase 2

Prof. Dr. Surasak Sangkhathat, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Health Science and Medical Research (JHSMR), along with the journal team representative, Ms. Kamolthip Suwanthavee, participated in the fourth conference titled "An Improvement of the System and Quality Adjustment of Thai Journals in Scopus – Phase 2." Taking place on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Convention A, 1st Floor, Ambassador Hotel, Bangkok, Sukhumvit 11 Road.

The event was organized by the Thai-Journal Citation Index (TCI) Centre, with support and collaboration from Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), and the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC). A total of 105 editors and journal team members attended the conference.

The conference aimed to review and evaluate the progress of the "An Improvement of the System and Quality Adjustment of Thai Journals in Scopus – Phase 2" project, which focuses on enhancing the quality and performance of Thai journals to meet international standards. Additionally, discussions and brainstorming sessions were held regarding the development of the next phase, "An Improvement of the System and Quality Adjustment of Thai Journals in Scopus – Phase 3 (2025–2026)," which will continue to focus on further improving the quality and standards of Thai journals in Scopus.
